TicWatch E2 Four Years Later

Four years ago I bought a TicWatch E2. How has it held up?

Battery

Initially advertised with 2-day battery life, I had no problems, with the battery easily lasting into the next day (except for long workouts).

Now, after four years, the battery has degraded to the point where it barely lasts into the evening. Lithium batteries are known to degrade over time, and with use. It’r still disappointing when it happens.

WearOS

The watch shipped with WearOS 2, and Mobvoi did not upgrade it to WearOS 3 when that was released.

Am I Happy

I’m happy with the watch, but disappointed with the battery life, and needing to replace it soon.

Which is odd, given I replace my phone every three to four years, or about as long as the battery lasted. I guess I unrealistically expected it to last like my analog watch before that I had for decades, only needing to change the battery every second year.

My Next Watch

I’m still using my Ticwatch, and am not yet looking at replacements. One thing for sure, though, I’ll be looking at watches with a seven day battery life. And an ambient light sensor for indoor/outdoor auto brightness.
